That said, I do still buy an occasional pack or two whenever I go to Target. I've picked up a little bit of everything retail this year - Topps Base, Gypsy Queen, Allen & Ginter, Stadium Club, Bowman and Donruss. Some of it has been fine, some of it has been terrible, but nothing has really exciting to me. Today I picked up a pack each of Stadium Club and a new set this year, Topps Big League. Stadium Club photography is great as always, but I'm not really a fan of the card stock. Several of the cards were stuck together straight out of the pack and the foil on the logo has already started to peel off some of them. This set isn't the easiest to photograph, but if you look at the word "Club" in the logo, you can see what I'm talking about.
The other pack I picked up was Topps Big League. This set may be targeted for kids, but I love it! The card stock is exactly what I want these days. I don't want gloss on everything. If you chase autographs through the mail like I do occasionally, this is the perfect set to use. Sharpies will not smudge on these cards. The photography is crisp. The design is attractive. I've always preferred borders on cards, which is why the Topps Base set has been so infuriating to me the past three years. Without a doubt, Big League is my favorite set to come out this season. I only pulled one Brewer in the pack I bought and according to the Trading Card DB, there are 14 more Brewers to collect. If you have any and want to trade, hit me up on Twitter @Brewers792.
